Headlight

A headlight is used to illuminate the road or the area in front of a vehicle. A distinction is made between low beam, high beam, parking light and fog light. The headlights are usually mounted directly on the front of the vehicle. However, additional headlights can also be mounted on the roof.

The illumination of the road by driving lights must be glare-free for oncoming traffic and other road users. Here, special requirements are attached to the beam pattern, which are specified in the ECE regulations. Headlights approved for European road traffic (ECE road approval) must bear an ECE test mark.

For the combination of several headlights the total brightness must be observed on the basis of the reference number.
