Service life

Service life refers to the period over which a component or product fulfils its intended function under specific operating conditions. The end of the service life is not necessarily determined by a complete failure. Depending on the product, specified performance limits may also serve as a criterion.

In the case of LEDs, for example, the gradual decline in luminous flux plays an important role. Parameters such as L70 or L80 describe the proportion of the original luminous flux that is still achieved after a certain operating period. For more information, see LED degradation.
