Work lights
What is a work light?
A work light is used to provide targeted illumination of a work area on or around a vehicle. The light produced is shaped by reflectors, lenses or other optical components to form a defined beam pattern. Work lights are used, for example, on industrial trucks, construction machinery, agricultural machinery and commercial vehicles.
Different light patterns for different tasks
The most suitable light distribution depends on the specific work area. A flood beam, for example, spreads the light widely across a larger area. A trapezoid beam is designed for near field illumination or the immediate vicinity of the vehicle, whilst a spot concentrates the light more intensely.
Further light distributions are available for specialised applications. A mast light pattern, for example, produces vertically elongated illumination for work with industrial trucks.
The suitability of a work light cannot therefore be assessed solely on the basis of its luminous flux or the specification in lumens. The decisive factor is whether the amount of light and the light distribution are suitable for the specific application.

Work lights and driving lights
Work lights are to be distinguished from headlights. Headlights are used to illuminate the road and produce light distributions defined by regulations, for example for low beam and high beam.
Work lights, on the other hand, are used to illuminate a working area. They are not intended as a substitute for prescribed driving headlights.
Work lights and work lamps
Work lamps also fulfil a different purpose. Whilst a work light uses an optical system to direct its light into a specific beam pattern, work lamps are used to provide general illumination of an area, for example inside a driver’s cab or a workspace.
