ECE road approval

To obtain the ECE road approval, only such components may be used, which bear an ECE test mark as per the ECE regulation. In general, it is assumed that a component with an ECE test mark can be fitted on a vehicle without further testing and that component is thus road approved. But road approval is not equal to road approval. If you obtain a component with ECE road approval for your vehicle, this does not mean that you then fulfil all the conditions of the rules of the road. What is also important is the purpose for which that component has been granted approval. The ECE mark on the component merely states that the component conforms to at least one ECE regulation, but not for exactly what purpose this road approval applies. Please check, before installing a product on a vehicle that is to run in regular traffic, whether the function required by you is covered as well.
