Spot

A spot is a highly concentrated beam pattern, in which a large proportion of the luminous flux is directed into a comparatively narrow area. This makes a spot particularly suitable for the targeted illumination of work areas further away.

Concentrated light for greater range

By concentrating the light, a spotlight can achieve a high luminous intensity in its main beam direction. A high candela value does not necessarily mean that the light has a higher overall luminous flux.

A wide-beam and a focused light can have a comparable luminous flux yet still produce very different lighting results.

The actual illuminance achieved depends, amongst other things, on the light distribution, distance and alignment of the light.

Distinction from other beam patterns

Unlike flood or trapezoid beam, the focus of a spot is not on achieving the widest possible illumination. The light is more strongly concentrated in order to illuminate a smaller area specifically, even at greater distances.

A particularly narrowly focused beam pattern is referred to as a pencil beam.
